Washing your car isn't just about looks — regular washing protects the paint from dirt, salt, and grime that cause damage over time. But how often is enough?
A simple rule
For most cars, a wash every two weeks keeps the paint clean and protected. If you park under trees, near the beach, or drive on dusty roads, weekly is better.
What damages paint if you skip it
- Bird droppings and tree sap — acidic, and they etch the clear coat fast.
- Salt — especially near the coast, it speeds up corrosion.
- Bugs and road grime — bake on in the sun and get harder to remove.
Wash, then protect
A wash removes dirt, but a wax or paint protection makes the next wash easier and shields the paint between cleans. If your car hasn't been detailed in a while, a full detail resets it to a clean, protected base — then regular washes keep it there.
