Humane Possum Removal: What the Law Says

A possum in the roof means thumping at night, mess, and sometimes a smell you can't ignore. Before you try to remove one yourself, it's important to know that possums are protected native animals in Australia — so how you deal with them is regulated. You can't just relocate them

Under wildlife protection laws, you generally can't trap a possum and release it far away. Relocated possums usually die, having been moved out of their territory — which is why the rules are strict.
